What’s In That Box
Everyone has a mystery box, basket, pile, cabinet, or drawer. Even if you are perfectly organized, you probably have at least one. Some of these mystery collections are only found when you are packing to move, but others lurk in the shadows and make you feel guilty about not addressing them.
Do any of these sound familiar?
Company was coming, so you scooped the mail and papers off of the kitchen counter and stashed them in a basket.
You have one or more D.O.O.M. boxes (Didn’t Open Only Moved).
The top shelf in the linen closet usually has a little more room to throw something up there, but you haven’t retrieved anything from it in years.
The junk drawer holds everything that a junk drawer should, and you can usually find what you need, but it hasn’t been cleaned out in a while.
You have a box of memorabilia that you haven’t looked at in years, and you can’t remember exactly what is in it.
You may know generally what is in any of these storage receptacles, but do you really need everything that is in there? Or, are they holding something you haven’t been able to find? Is there anything that should be saved somewhere else?
Cleaning out any of these boxes or areas is not usually something that needs to be done immediately. However, these mystery clutter keepers tend to multiply, and they add to our stress! Clearing some of this clutter will clear part of your mind and make you feel accomplished. Don’t wait until you are moving, or until you can’t do it yourself and someone else has to.
On Tuesday evening, May 20th, join me and a small group to go on a Treasure Hunt to go through one of your boxes, drawers, or piles. Why do this during a virtual workshop? First of all, it will be fun! Doing things together makes it easier…and it holds us accountable to actually set aside time to do it. You will be able to share the memories that are triggered by your stuff, have other treasure hunters to ooh and ahh and giggle with you. And, have folks to cheer you on if it is time to let go of something. You will also have an expert to help with where something should go next (Donation? Digitizing? Is it recyclable?) I know just what to do with the things you no longer need or want. And, you also get to hear what kinds of things other people save and how to best preserve those memories.
In 90 minutes, you will feel accomplished by checking off a “to-do”, will feel lighter as you have new open space and fewer unknowns in your home, and you will gain a little momentum to keep decluttering. Space is limited in order to allow full participation, so sign up today! Click HERE to register.
If you want to participate, but Tuesday night isn’t a good day and time, please reach out to let me know when you would like me to schedule my next guided Treasure Hunt.
